Rise in ‘mumpreneurs’

Written by admin on January 6, 2010.

Starting a business is a dream for one in ten mums, according to a survey from BT Business.

Some 62 per cent said choosing the hours they work was the reason they wanted to start-up, while 50 per cent wanted a better work/life balance and 38 per cent said they liked the idea of being their own boss.

Tabitha Potts, mum-of-two and owner of kids clothing site Mimimyne, says: ‘I know many women that are balancing their family life, run their own business and are the major bread winner. The internet has opened up a world of new business possibilities.’

Of the 128 mothers aspiring to start-up, one-third said they want to run a company from home.

According to a survey from HR firm Morgan Redwood, stress at work is the major obstacle for women in achieving a work/life balance.
